Senior Send Off Vs. Parent Prom

“Prom” for the Dakota students this year will be different than any other Dakota prom in the history of Dakota proms. This year will not be your average prom, so instead they are calling it a “senior send off”. The senior send off is a free event which will include food trucks, photobooths, photo backdrops, prom favors, dancing, and a dj, so it sounds the same as your average prom but what makes it different this year is it is outdoors. The senior send off will be in the football stadium parking lot and dressing up is optional. The senior send off will be on June 8th from 3pm to 6pm and prom court will be announced at 3:30.

The second option for prom is the parent prom. The parent prom is hosted by a few Dakota parents, and it will also be on June 8th from 6-10pm at the palazzo Grande. This event will be just like a normal Dakota prom. The Parent prom will include a full sit down dinner, dancing, a candy station, a roaming photographer, and photo booths. This event costs $80 per ticket and each person is allowed up to 2 guests.

Because we are having two different proms this year, sadly not everyone will be together at the same prom. Some students have plans on attending one or the other, some students plan on attending both, and some students prefer to attend neither. With that being said here are some opinions of other students and their prom preferences and their reasonings. We asked 40 students which prom they would rather go to and why.

Out of the 40 students asked, 33 said they planned to go to the parent prom and 7 said they planned on going to the senior send off hosted by Dakota. The students who chose to go to the parent prom chose to go to the parent prom for the same reason, which was because it is the closest that we can get to a real prom. The students who said they would rather  to go to the senior send off said they would rather go to the senior send off for safety and sanitary reasons. The students who prefer to go to the senior send off prefer the senior send off because they do not trust or know the parents, and they don’t think that they will follow all of the guidelines that need to be followed in order to keep the prom a safe place. Which prom will you be attending?
