A New Era of Lions Football

S.O.L (Same old Lions) has been the adage to describe the Lions for years, especially for the last three. The Lions failed to achieve much of anything under former GM Pat Quinn and head coach Matt Patricia. However, there is hope for change, as the Lions announced Brad Holmes as their new GM. Holmes spent 17-years in the Los Angeles Rams* organization as a scout and eventually becoming the team’s Director of College Scouting in 2013. It is worth noting that the Rams have been one of the best drafting teams in the NFL, which could do wonders for the Lions who have had many issues in the drafting players.

Holmes’ first order of business as GM will be finding the next head coach. The favorite for the Lions job, Robert Saleh signed with the New York Jets this weekend, and it now appears that Saints TE coach/ Assistant to the head coach, Dan Campbell will take the job at some point this week. Holmes faces a tough road ahead to rebuild this Lions team, and this offseason will reveal the beginnings of Holmes’ master plan. There were many questions for the Lions this offseason, the most important has to do with quarterback Matthew Stafford. Some believe that Stafford has played his last game in Detroit, but the ultimate fate of Stafford is unknown. Also, top receiver Kenny Golladay is a free agent, and there are no indications as to whether or not he will return to Detriot next season.

It’s been years since the Lions have had sustained excellence, as many GM’s and coaches have come and gone looking to return the franchise to greatness with no luck. However, the signing of General Manager Brad Holmes brings a new sense of hope that this storied franchise can return to greatness.
