Pistons Make a Splash on Draft Night
Wednesday night was the NBA draft and even though the Pistons didn’t have a top pick, the new General Manager Troy Weaver made multiple trades to get the youth this team needs. The Pistons started the day with just the seventh pick in the draft, but Troy Weaver was able to acquire three more picks, including two additional first-rounders. With their earliest pick, the Pistons decided to fill their biggest need by taking Killian Hayes, a 6’5″ playmaking point guard from France. The Pistons then decided to trade with the Rockets for another first-round pick. Detroit gave up a future first-round pick, that was heavily protected, for Trevor Ariza and the number 16 pick in the draft. The Pistons used this acquired pick to draft Isaiah Stewart a 6’9″ center from the University of Washington. The Pistons then received the 19th pick in a three-team trade with the Clippers and Nets. The Pistons dealt former first-round pick, Luke Kennard, to the Clippers for the 19th pick. With this pick, the Pistons selected Saddiq Bey, a 6’8″ small forward from Villanova that shot 45% from three last year. In their last move of the night, the Pistons traded up to the 38th pick in the draft where they drafted Saben Lee, a point guard from Vanderbilt.
Troy Weaver showed that the Pistons are in a full rebuild mode. This is why Luke Kennard was traded. All four of the Pistons draft picks have lots of potential and should get plenty of playing time on a Pistons team that is not predicted to be very good this year.

The pistons have not been legitimate contenders in over a decade. It’s time trade away Blake Griffin even though he’s the reigning Blake of the Year, and commit to the rebuild. TRUST THE PROCESS.
