Michigan Falls to Penn State 28-21

Michigan lost their second game of the season last Saturday 28-21 against Penn State. Michigan was fighting an uphill battle on Saturday as they were underdogs in one of the hardest environments to play in, Penn State’s annual whiteout game. Michigan dug themselves a hole early when they fell behind 21-0 halfway through the second quarter. Penn State then tried to run the ball  and waste time, but the  Michigan defense shut the door, holding Penn State to just 100 yards rushing. This kept  the game  close while Michigan struggled offensively. Running back Zach Charbonnet came through with 2 touchdown runs to bring Michigan within seven late in the 3rd quarter. A 53-yard touchdown catch from Hamler on the next drive gave Penn State  a 28-14 4th quarter  lead that  Michigan couldn’t overcome. Michigan  had an opportunity to tie the game with 2 minutes left, but sophomore receiver Ronnie Bell dropped a pass in the endzone  on 4th & goal which  ended the game. While  Michigan looked like new team in the second half, they couldn’t overcome the early deficit.

This loss drops Michigan’s record to 5-2 this season, and with three rivalry  games yet to come (#8 Notre Dame, Michigan State, and #3 Ohio State) it could be a bumpy finish. This  season has been disappointing so far as many expected the Wolverines to win the Big Ten. Their offense still looks  out of sink, and seems  to be their main downfall. Michigan now has 2 losses in Big Ten making their chances at winning the division slim. Michigan will have to bounce back quickly because this Saturday Michigan plays another primetime game this time against #8 Notre Dame in Ann Arbor at 7:30 p.m. on ABC.
