Dakota Baseball Battles Romeo
On Thursday May 2nd, the Dakota Cougars baseball team took on the Bulldogs from Romeo High School. Being the second game in this league series, the Cougars hoped to end their four game conference losing streak and avenge their previous 8-0 loss to Romeo. The Bulldogs, who were one game back from the MAC Red Division leaders, Grosse Pointe South, needed a win themselves.
The starting pitchers on the day were Matt Biebuyck for Dakota and Michigan State commit, Dominic Hann, for Romeo. The first runs of the game came when Jeff Reseigh singled to start the second inning for the Cougars. Andrew Wouters and Patrick Merolla would follow with hits of their own to create a great scoring opportunity with bases loaded and no outs. Sophomore Preston Leon would then strikeout but three passed balls during his at bat scored all three base runners. The Cougars took a 3-0 lead on a three RBI strikeout!
This would be all the scoring for the game as Dakota wins by a score of 3-0. Both pitchers had great outings. Hann would finish with six strong innings, allowing three runs on six hits, while striking out seven batters. Biebuyck had an outstanding day on the mound as he threw a complete game shutout to earn his first career MAC Red win. He allowed zero runs on two hits, as he struck out two.
Due to rain the third and deciding game of this series has been moved to Tuesday May 7th. Dakota hopes to ride this momentum into their next conference series against cross-town rival Chippewa Valley on Monday.
