Dakota Golf Lights the Candle

The Dakota Boys Golf team has become MAC White Division champions! The title comes after an amazing 9-0 preseason run.

When thinking about what the team has learned, senior Matt Bayer (@matthew_bayer94) said that they learned “how to come together as a team and work together and play to the best of our ability.” Junior Josh Tranzow said, “I learned a lot about teamwork and completing a common goal.” Senior Connor Wilson said that “hopefully this leads to a state final appearance at Grand Valley State University!”

Senior Andrew Brooks said “the best part of the season was seeing Coach Taurence and Tocco’s hard work with us pay off.” Matt Bayer said, “having Coach Tocco and Coach Taurence continue to trust in me since my freshman year and give me opportunities showed me I have to give them something back. That’s why going to the state tournament is something I can do to thank them and my teammates.” Junior Jacob Fenech says he “really wants to thank Coach Taurence for putting in so much work leading into this season. He saw the potential in the season and that would could make it to the state championship.” He also said that “us juniors really want to win it for Matthew and Andrew, but most importantly Coach Taurence.” Junior Matt Wasik also said, “BIG thanks to our coaches Coach Taurence and Coach Tocco for taking time out of their busy schedule to be with us.”

While reflecting on the duration of the season Andrew Brooks said “it’s amazing to see how far Matt and I have come after being on varsity for four years together. Living up to our potential felt amazing.” Connor Wilson said, “I feel what helps the most is our competitiveness on a daily basis, even during practice. Every day we compete against each other and improve parts of our game!” Matt Wasik said that the best part of the season so far “was building a bond with not only with my teammates, but becoming best friends. Everyday we showed up to get better. We worked so hard, I’m so glad it paid off!”

Matt Wasik said, “I hope we can continue this winning streak into our regional tournament, and always remember, ‘Light the Candle.'”
