Everything You Need to Know About Dakota High School’s Exciting New Café!
Ever find yourself craving a little caffeine fix or a nice beverage? Here at Dakota High School, you can fulfill all those cravings. Starting today, you can take care of those needs at one place; the Media Center’s new café!
The Naming Contest
The name of the café has not yet been decided. The staff running the café made a contest to choose what the name will be. Any student can participate by submitting their idea in a ballot box which is in the Media Center. Simply write down the idea you have in mind for the café’s name along with your own name and slip the paper into the box. The ballots close on October 4th, and the winner will be announced next Friday, October 6th. The winner will be awarded a free coffee every Friday for a whole month!
A Look Inside the Menu
The menu has various choices for just about anyone and is only going to grow in the future. It has many flavors of tea, refreshers, several types of coffee, and hot chocolate. Creamer and sugar will also be provided upon request. The café will even have a dairy free creamer for anyone who is lactose intolerant or just prefers nondairy products. The pricing is also very fair with $3 being the highest price on the menu, and the price for most of the items. When being showed how low the menu prices were here is what sophomore Sam Yang had to say,” The café has amazing prices and was an incredibly good idea.” Students like how all drinks are cheap and affordable. Food will be added later but only small snacks such as granola bars, muffins, and fruit. The reason for this is because the café needs to stay different in terms of what they have to offer compared to The Cougar Den which already has many types of snacks.
Funding and Where the Profit is Going
A lot of the funding to get the café up and running came from The Walkathon donations and private donations from people who wanted to see something like this in Dakota High School. All the money made from the café is going straight back into the school and Media Center. Making the environment better in Dakota High School and getting new furniture for the Media Center are a couple of priorities when it comes to the profit. Students and staff will be paying by using cash or card at the café. Also, in a couple of weeks there will be multiple QR codes around the school that staff and students can scan to place an order and pick it up during passing time or whenever is most convenient. Teachers and staff get to decide if they want the café’s beverages in their classrooms so make sure it is all right with your teacher before ordering or bringing it to class.
Who’s Running the Café?
Mr. Sassin, Ms. Groppuso, and Ms. Sarah are all making sure that it runs smoothly. That wanted to open a café to provide a cheaper option for caffeine than other options like Starbucks which can get expensive if you get it often. The students in the Work Study Program are going to be making the orders as baristas to get real world experience to help them get jobs in the future.
Conclusion
In conclusion, if you ever find yourself wanting a fresh cup of coffee here in Dakota, the Media Center’s café is the place to go.
