Division One High School Playoffs Round One Recap
The regular season for Michigan high school football is over and the top 32 teams in each division faced off against each other. On Sunday October 23, 2022 a selection show was broadcasted on Rally Sports to announce the teams who made playoffs and who each team plays. Pairings for the tournament is based of regular season points with highest ranked teams hosting on their home field. Tickets for the games cost $7 for districts, $9 for regionals, division 1 is the most competitive division with three undefeated teams Belleville, Rockford, and Dakota (Macomb). Davidson, West Bloomfield, Caledonia, and Rochester Adams also being highly competitive teams all going (8-1) on the regular season. The playoff bracket is broken up in 4 regions and 2 districts for each region, All teams played on Friday October 28, 2022 at 7pm with a few exceptions of Saturday games. To kick off the division one bracket, region one district one was East Kentwood (5-4) at Rockford (9-0) with Rockford winning 50-14. Grandville (7-2) played Caledonia at East Kentwood on Saturday, Caledonia defeated Grandville 48-26. Caledonia will play a tough match up against Rockford this Friday at Rockford. In district 2 Grand Ledge (7-2) played Brighton (8-1) at Brighton, Grand Ledge kicked Brighton to the curb with a 38-3 victory. Finishing off region one Holt (6-3) faced off against Hartland at home with a 7 point lead, Holt beat Hartland 14-7. Holt will take on Grand Ledge making for another great round two game. In region 2 district 1 Grand Blanc (4-5) took on Davidson (8-1) with no surprises Davidson won 27-0, moving them on in the tournament and Lapeer (7-2) played against Clarkston (7-2), a difficult match up but Clarkson defeated Lapeer in a high scoring game 62-41. Clarkson and Davison will face at Davidson High School on Friday. Kicking off district 2 Lake Orion (4-5) went up against highly ranked Rochester Adams (8-1), Rochester Adams won with a surprising close game, 49-35. Moving on Rochester (5-4) vs Rochester Hills Stoney Creek (5-4), both similarly ranked teams but Rochester won in a very close game 21-20. Another battle of the Rochesters will begin on Friday with Rochester Adams going up against Rochester. In region 3 district 1 Brownstown Woodhaven (6-3) had to up against raining state champion Belleville (9-0), Brownstown Woodhaven came up short with Belleville sealing there victory 48-0. Ann Arbor Huron (5-4) played at Saline (7-2) but Ann Arbor could not defeat Saline, Saline won 10-7. Belleville and Salene will go up against each other in round two. Starting off district 2 Novi (5-4) went up against Northville (7-2) but could not defeat the Northville Mustangs winning 26-7 and to finish off region three Detroit Catholic Central (6-2) played Dearborn (7-2) but Detroit Catholic Central came out on top winning 26-21. Northville will play Detroit Catholic Central at 7pm. Closing out the division one bracket in region 4 district 1 Detroit Cass Tech (6-3) dominated West Bloomfield (8-1) with a 38-13 victory and Troy (7-2) played Southfield A&T (7-2), Southfield A&T killed Troy in a 58-0 win. Detroit Catholic Central will play against Southfield A&T on Saturday at 1pm. Last but not least in district 2 Utica Eisenhower (6-3) went up against undefeated Macomb Dakota (9-0) but came up short with Dakota beating Eisenhower 28-0. Clinton Township Chippewa Valley (7-2) played an incredible game against Romeo (7-2), Chippewa Valley fought hard but it was Romeo at the end of the fourth quarter with a two point conversion to seal there victory and go on to play Macomb Dakota in round two. The reigning state champion Belleville is one of the favorites to take home the championship again this year but the competition is tough and they are the team to beat. There is so many games you need to keep your eyes on this Friday for round two of division one playoffs with every team being so highly competitive.
Our Dakota Cougars beat Eisenhower once again, this time winning 28-0 moving us on to round two.
