Roy Halladay dies at age 40.
Roy Halladay, a 2-time Cy Young award winner and 8-time All Star, died last Tuesday on November 7th after a plane crash in the Gulf of Mexico. Halladay was riding in an Icon A5 plane, which was described as “a sports car with wings,” before his death. The plane seemed to be hot-dogging above the Gulf of Mexico moments before the crash. The crash was due to a pilot error, according to the National Transportation Safety Board. After the crash, Pasco County authorities confirmed Halladay’s death. the was no evidence of other passengers and no survivors were found.
Roy Halladay was a phenomenal pitcher during his day. Halladay ended his career with a 3.38 ERA, 203 wins, and 2117 strikeouts. Halladay, commonly nicknamed as “Doc,” was selected to the All-Star game eight times in his career. He was also was one of the only pitchers ever to win a Cy Young award while playing in both the American and National league. During his career, Halladay pitched two no-hitters, one of them being a perfect game. Halladay threw an incredible 67 complete games and 20 shutouts throughout his career.
The day of Halladay’s death was a dark and sad day for the baseball world, as many remembered him as one of the best pitchers in his generation. “He is gonna be missed by a lot of people.”-Mark Teixeira.
