Trump walks from Hanoi Summit

Kim Jung-Un left, President Trump right

From February 27th through the 28th, President Donald Trump met with North Korean leader Kim Jung-Un. The meeting was held in Hanoi, the capitol of Vietnam. This is the second meeting between the two leaders since the Singapore summit in June 2018.

On February 28th, the White House announced that President Trump had decided to abruptly end the summit. President Trump left the summit without a joint agreement with North Korea. Trump had said that talks broke down when North Korea asked for all sanctions to be lifted. North Korea responded to that claim saying they only requested partial relief.

President Trump also discussed Otto Warmbier, the American student who was imprisoned by North Korea and died shortly after being returned to the US. Trump said he believed Kim Jung-Un when he said he did not personally know about the treatment that Warmbier had in North Korean custody.

Many US lawmakers supported President Trump walking away since the goal of the US is the denuclearization of North Korea.
