Virginia Is A Hot Mess
Ever since Gov. Ralph Northam (D) was found in his 1984 medical yearbook in a racist photo, things have gone downhill in the state of Virginia. It seemed that Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax (D) would become the second African American governor until a second allegation of sexual assault from this week by a Maryland woman named Meredith Watson was brought up. The woman said that it happened it 2000 when they both were undergraduates at Duke University. She said that she told several friends and classmates, yet Fairfax aggressively denies both accusations.
Democratic Party leaders and the Virginia Legislative Black Caucus call for Fairfax to resign and many of the others who ignored the first accusations are now agreeing with the public. “I deny this latest unsubstantiated allegation,” Fairfax responded in a statement with the Washington Post. “It is demonstrably false. I have never forced myself on anyone ever.” Despite the evidence against Gov. Northam, he says he is still going to serve out the rest of his three years. No news yet if Fairfax is resigning, or if there would be a re-election.
