Sibley’s Sleepover
Most of you know Paul Sibley as the proud principal of Dakota High School who enforces the rules of Dakota. But, I’m sure most of you that are reading this don’t think of Mr. Sibley as a thrill seeker doing crazy things like, jumping out of a plane, doing Evel Knievel stunts on a Motorcycle, or even wearing a red jump suit in front of a bull. However, Mr. Sibley will do some unusual things if it’s for a good cause like, raising money for the school.
Last fall the Walk-a-Thon was put together by Mrs. Young and the student leadership class. The Walk-a-Thon raised $22,000 which all came from student donations to help the school. Also, another cool thing is that the teachers at Dakota can use that money to create new classes or clubs like the Writing for Publication class.
Most of you know that Mr. Sibley is a man of his word. He went through with his agreement and slept on the roof of the school on September the 7th when Dakota took on Anchor Bay. I remember asking two of my friends while we were leaving the game “Who is that guy up on the roof shining that light down waving his arms around like a crazy man.” I soon found out that it was Mr. Sibley fulfilling his promise.
When I was interviewing Mr. Sibley he said that he had a great time with his young son David. They pitched a tent with some sleeping bags inside. He also mentioned that afterwards his son bragged about it to all his friends at school the next Monday. I proceeded to ask him what was the coolest part of the whole experience? His response was “I got to see he sun rise over the with Athletic wing with my son which was pretty cool.” At the very end of our conversation I asked Mr. Sibley if he would do something like this again? His response was only if it was for a good cause not out of free will.
His act surely showed how much he is committed to Dakota High School and how much his is willing to do for the good of the school.
