ABC Sitcom ‘Roseanne’ Cancelled After Racist Tweets
ABC has cancelled the hit sitcom “Roseanne” after the lead actress Roseanne Barr made racist tweets about President Obama’s former aide Valerie Jarrett. She made comments about her looking like the offspring of the “Muslim Brotherhood and Planet of the Apes.”
ABC Entertainment resident Channing Dungey said in a statement, “Roseanne’s Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show.”
Barr later deleted the tweet, following up with an apology that wrote, “I apologize to Valerie Jarrett and to all Americans. I am truly sorry for making a bad joke about her politics and her looks. I should have known better. Forgive me-my joke was in bad taste. I am now leaving Twitter.”
