Santa Fe School Shooting
Over the course of 2018, there have been many school shootings and attacks on schools of all ages. In some cases, the crime was done by the students attending the school, but in other cases it was an outside influence: usually a terrorist.
On Friday, May 18th, 2018, Santa Fe High School went on lock down due to an active student shooter that had opened fire. Ten people were fatally shot, and 13 others were wounded. A 17 year old student named Dimitrios Pagourtzis was identified as the shooter and was quickly taken into custody. Of the 10 people who lost their lives, 2 were educators and 8 were students. One student, named Sabika Sheikh, was a foreign exchange student from Pakistan who was supposed to return home less than a month from when she was fatally shot.
The shooter was a troubled individual, and was bullied by multiple students and coaches throughout his time in high school. Police went through his computer to find that he was planning on shooting up the school, but was also planning on killing himself following the shooting which did not happen. Despite daily struggles of bullying, it is not a valid excuse or a reason for killing 10 people. His act was malicious and cruel.
Overall, school shootings in the United States need to come to an end.
