Canada Bus Accident
On April 6th, 2018 a Canadian hockey team (The Broncos) lost sixteen talented individuals due to a high speed crash. The boys were on their way to a playoff game that Friday night. The lives lost included 10 players between the ages of 16 and 21, as a result of a trailer, supplied with peat moss, that crashed into the team’s bus. The company that owns the truck which caused the accident, Alberta Transportation, has only been in operation for three months, and had maintained a zero crash record. Alberta Transportation has been ordered to keep its trucks off the road, but it has not been disclosed how long the ban will last. The driver of the Broncos bus involved in the crash was 30 years old and had recently obtained his license a year ago, after undergoing two weeks of training. The driver of the trailer was uninjured, and has not been formally charged as of now. Police and reporters said that the investigation into the cause of the crash will take a long time due to the complication of the situation and the small amount of evidence gained. If the Broncos bus was indeed following traffic laws, when it passed through an intersection on Highway 35, it should have had the right of way. The semi-trailer would have had to stop at a stop sign, before crossing the highway so why the driver failed to stop is still unknown.
In the days that follow the accidents, residents near Saskatchewan Province put hockey sticks on their front porches as a sign of respect for the team. The area has been struck with grief for the past week, and say its going to take a long time for things to go back to normal.
