Nassar Meets his Fate After Years of Sexual Abuse

54-year-old Larry Nassar was a doctor of osteopathic medicine and practiced osteopathic manipulation, where a doctor uses their hands to stretch, apply gentle pressure in order to move muscles and joints. However, Nassar was using the power that he had as a doctor to take advantage of many young girls. For more than a year, Nassar claimed that he was performing legitimate medical procedures on the athletes. He was accused of sexually abusing more than 140 girls and women.

On November 22, his time evading justice was over. He pleaded guilty to 10 counts of first-degree sexual conduct. He was then sentenced to 40-175 years in prison. When on trial, the judge let the victims tell their stories in front of Nassar. He wrote a six page letter to the judge telling her that it was too hard for him to listen to all of the girl’s stories and that the judge had turned the case into a “media circus,” putting herself in the spotlight. The judge tore the letter in half.

In a separate federal case, Nassar was sentenced to another 60 years on child pornography charges. Investigators said that he had at least 37,000 videos and images of child pornography, which included images of prepubescent children engaged in sex acts. He has recently been transferred from a Michigan facility to a federal prison in Tuscan, Arizona to serve those 60 years.
