Chaldean American Month

Throughout the month of April, we celebrate Chaldean-American month. This month, we commemorate the Assyrian/Babylonian New Year, Akitu, a celebration of spring, rebirth, and renewal. CMEAA joins Governor Whitmer, who for the first time in Michigan’s history declared April as Chaldean-American month. The celebration of Chaldean American month is an opportunity to recognize and honor the contributions of Chaldean Americans to American society, and to raise awareness about the Chaldean American community and its culture.

Chaldeans are an ethnic group who are indigenous to the region of Mesopotamia (modern-day Iraq). Chaldeans are believed to be the descendants of the ancient Babylonians, and they have a long and rich history that dates back thousands of years. The Chaldeans have made significant help in fields like science, medicine, literature, and art throughout history. Chaldean Americans are also known for their rich cultural heritage. The Chaldean American community has a unique history and culture that is celebrated through events such as Chaldean American Month this month.

The history of Chaldean Americans in the United States dates back to the early 20th century, when the first Chaldean immigrants arrived in the country. Many of these early immigrants settled in Detroit, Michigan, where they established a huge community that has continued to grow and thrive to this day. Chaldeans have faced many hardships in their history. In recent years, a lot of Chaldeans have forcefully had to flee their homes due to violence in Iraq. As a result of this, they settled into different places around the United States such as Michigan. There is an estimated 200,000 Chaldean Americans living in the United States, with the largest population living in Michigan.

Chaldean Americans have made significant contributions to American society in plenty of fields. In the field of medicine, Chaldean Americans have played a big role in advancing medical research and technology. Many Chaldean Americans work as doctors, nurses, and researchers, and have made important discoveries that have helped to improve the lives of people all over the world.

In business, Chaldean Americans have established successful businesses and entrepreneurial ventures across the United States. Many Chaldean Americans own and operate small businesses, and have contributed to the growth and success of local communities. Chaldean Americans have been involved in politics, serving as elected officials and community leaders who have worked to improve the lives of people in their communities.

Chaldean language is a dialect of Aramaic, which is an ancient Semitic language language that was spoken in the middle east for thousands and thousands of years. In our world today, this language isn’t as c0mmon but is still alive and spoken in places around the United States.

Overall, Chaldean people are a important and wonderful ethnic group with many contributions to society. Despite having many challenges throughout their history, they have pushed and made it through hard times. Let’s continue to celebrate through the month of April.
