Class of 2023 Senior Memoirs
Every year, Dakota seniors are able to vote on Senior Memoirs which include the class flower, color, song, and quote. Recently, the class of 2023 have made their official choices! The class flower is a rose, and the color is pink. The class song is “Where’d All the Time Go?” by Dr. Dog and it will be played at graduation. The class quote is from the movie Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. At the end of the movie Ferris Bueller says, “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”
The Senior Memoirs will be painted on the wall above the lockers in Dakota’s main building along with all the blue and green handprints of the seniors. The memoirs will also be mentioned in the graduation announcements seniors were able to order from Jostens along with their cap and gown.
Senior memoirs went through multiple rounds of voting. First an open ballot went out where people could fill in options for all the categories, then the top choices were put into another multiple-choice online ballot for students to choose the official memoirs. Only seniors were able to vote.
Also chosen while voting was the teacher that will give a speech at graduation. The Class of 2023 Staff Speaker will be Ms. Kelly Sarver. She currently teaches English 11 and Women’s History. She is also an advisor for the Women’s Empowerment Club, Black Student Union, Anime Club, and the Writing Club. Staff speakers were chosen off a list because teachers that spoke in the previous five years could not be the speaker this year.
Student speaker applications will go out in February. Senior Class Council President Claire Kraft and Vice-President Mckenna Goike will also make speeches at graduation.
Graduation will be Sunday June 11th. There are two graduation ceremonies, one in the morning and another in the afternoon.
