Holiday Tree Decorating Contest!

Dakota High School is hosting the first ever holiday tree decorating contest down in the Media Center! Students can check out a tree and decorate it for any holiday or theme of their choosing. There are plenty of holidays Dakota High School is proud to present. Students can decorate the tree using any ornaments of their choosing, but we highly recommend using recycled ornaments or hand crafted. The trees do not have to relate to an actual holiday and can be the theme or something you are interested in.

If you are stuck and looking for ideas maybe try one of these holidays!

Christmas

An annual festival commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ. It is celebrated on the 25th of December and the celebration includes gift giving, opening gifts that were placed under the Christmas tree.

Hanukkah

A Jewish festival that reaffirms the ideals of Judaism and commemorates the rededication of the second temple of Jerusalem by lighting candles each day of the festival.

Diwali

A Hindu festival of lights, held in the months of October and November. It marks the beginning of the fiscal year in India.

Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead)

A Mexican holiday where families welcome the souls of relatives who have passed away and includes lighting candles, food and drinking.

 Kwanzaa

A weeklong celebration held in the United States that honors the African heritage in African American culture. (It is observed from December 26th to January 1st.)
