Graphic Novels in the Media Center
Media Center’s new books
Dakota high school’s media center is filled with tons of books. Genres range from all things’ history to the latest romance novels. Dakota’s media center is always getting newer books and even has sections of books that you may want to read with a group of friends. So, what is new in the media center?
Heartstopper series (vol. 1-4)

This coming-of-age story follows our two main characters Nick and Charlie discover that their unlikely friendship might be turning into young love while they navigate high school. This precious series tackles the talk about sexuality, identity, love, and mental battles.
If you are interested in young adult books that are LGBTQIA+ friendly the Heartstopper series is based on feeling comfortable loving who you choose to love.
Your name. (vol. 1&2)

The story of two lost souls searching for the lives they dream of. When Mitsuha daydreams of the life she wants to create in Tokyo while she lives in a town in the mountains, Taki is a high school boy dreaming of the unfamiliar life deep in the mountains. When the two begin to inch towards their desired lives an incredibly irresistible story is set in place.
Your name. Another side: Earthbound (vol. 1-2)

The second series is a lighter version of the first, counting as a spinoff. Earthbound is in the perspective of Mitsuha’s friends and family. These novels go into the lore. Behind the first series, Misuha’s family and friends describe the daze she was into dreaming about the life she believes she deserves in Tokyo.
Blue Period (vol. 1-4)

Yatora Yaguchi is a boy with excellent grades, succeeding in life, and top of the grid. Though the grades feel rewarding Yatora wants a more fulfilling life. He stares at the vibrant landscape of Shibuya and has an overwhelming feeling towards the painting but doesn’t know how to quite express the beauty in it. Slapping colors on a blank canvas brings out the ideas he was lacking previously, his joy from the praise he receives sends him to a competitive Tokyo university of arts, he is just hoping to secure a spot and fill his dreams!
All these graphic novels have bright ideas and multiple books compiling them into a series. Fans look forward to hearing more about upcoming manga: A style of Japanese comic books and graphic novels. All graphic novels include sometimes bright pictures showing what may be relating to the dialogue in the book. These newer series came out in late 2021 and became a huge hit. Dakota’s media center continues to update its shelf with plenty of new loved manga. The Dakota Media Center is also filled with very helpful assistants such as: Mrs. Groppuso our Media specialist, and Mrs. Glasford our Media clerk. You can find them down at the media center and ask them any of the questions you may have about the books you love and are looking to find!
