John F. Kennedy: The New Files

Back in the year 1960, 43-year-old John   Fitzgerald Kennedy became the 35th President of the United States, becoming the youngest man and the first Roman Catholic to be president. Kennedy, more commonly known by his initials JFK, had many accomplishments during his time in office, including finding a solution to the Cuban Missile Crisis.

On November 22, 1963, John F. Kennedy was shot and killed by Lee Harvey Oswald in Dallas, Texas. Oswald was later murdered by local nightclub owner, Jack Ruby. The assassination stunned the nation and many Americans who, not very confident in the the explanation given to them, formulated complex conspiracy theories. People today still have their own theories as to what actually happened.

The assassination, though we all learn about it in school, has come back into the spotlight as the government has released new previously classified files regarding the death of the late president. The National Archives released thousands of documents to the American public recently, following the President John F. Kennedy Assassination Records Collection Act of 1992.  Some big things we learned is that the FBI got a death threat aimed towards Oswald the day before his murder, an alleged Cuban intel officer said he knew Oswald, and the CIA had intercepted a call between Oswald, then in Mexico, to the Russian embassy in Mexico. Though the information isn’t groundbreaking, it gives a little more insight into our nation during that period of time.
