Stop Selling Alpaca Fleece
A undercover investigation took place at the world’s largest privately owned alpaca farm in Peru. The investigation revealed all the pain and suffering alpacas have to face just to be shaved for their fleece. When going to shave the alpacas workers will slam them on the tables, some who are pregnant, and tie them to a restraining device. To pick up the alpacas, workers will grab them by their tails, ears, and legs to pull them up. Once they are on the table the workers would then procced to tie them tightly by the legs and arms and pull hard enough to nearly pop them out of their sockets. As they start to shear the alpacas they work quickly and carelessly causing deep wounds.
Alpacas are prey animals and putting them in restraints is highly distressing to them as it makes them fear that they are being killed. Being pinned down and restrained causes them to vomit, spit, and cry out of fear. The best thing to do to help these alpacas is to refuse to buy anything made of their fleece. That means check your tags to make sure it is not made of alpaca fleece.
