How We Feel About Moving Away To College

Hannah: For college I am attending Western Michigan University which is around two and a half hours away from here. Going away to college is super exciting but also very intimidating and scary. I am extremely excited to take the next step of my life, going to college and getting my education so I can continue to ensure the job and life I want. Moving away from family and friends though to take that step can be stressful and leave you feeling unsure. The type of living I will have up at Western Michigan is a pod style living where there is a full living and dining room, 16 people share this space with 2 people per room (8 bedrooms), then showers that are for all 16 girls sharing the space. I picked this type of living because I figured what better way to make friends in a new town than to be sharing a space with 15 of them. Overall moving out and staying on campus at college will be a fun experience, just got to fight the nerves.

Rachel: I am attending Central Michigan University located in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. The reality of moving two and a half hours away from everything I know, and love is both exciting and terrifying. Getting to have new experiences with new people in a different town is very nerve-wracking but I am looking forward to it the most. I will be living in a dorm with three other people who I have never met before. The most common type of dorm at Central has one common room with a bathroom and two bedrooms connecting off of it. I picked this one because it was the base choice, making it one of the cheapest and the options for first-year students are limited. I am really excited to decorate my dorm room with my roommate in hopes to make it feel a little more at home. Overall moving away sounds scary but as long as I embrace all the changes coming my way, I am sure I will have a great first experience.
