Depp vs Heard

Depp’s lawsuit was filed back in 2019 against Heard for the op-ed she wrote for The Washington Post back in 2018.

Could be triggering to some… So, TW!!

The famous actor Johnny Depp and his ex-wife Amber Heard have been at each other’s necks for years, accusing each other of abuse. The trial that is taking place in Virginia between them has been talked about nonstop for the past few days. But where did it go wrong? Who started it? And who is telling the truth? Let’s look at the timeline.

After filing for divorce in 2016 and appearing in court with a bruised face, she claimed that Depp threw a phone at her face at close range. Heard was then given a temporary restraining order against Depp after making a domestic abuse complaint. The actress claimed that during their relationship, Depp would verbally and physically abuse her. She claimed, “I endured excessive emotional, verbal and physical abuse from Johnny, which has included angry, hostile, humiliating and threatening assaults to me whenever I questioned his authority.” This however was denied by Depp. During this case, Depp’s attorney stated in a court filing that “Amber is attempting to secure a premature financial resolution by alleging abuse.” during their divorce.See the source image

Later that same year, footage was released by TMZ of Depp throwing a wine bottle and a glass in a kitchen with Heard in the room. This aided Heard in the divorce settlement which led her to receiving $7 million, in which she donated the money to the American Civil Liberties Union.

In 2018, Heard wrote an op-ed for The Washington Post about domestic violence and her experiences with it. However, she never mentions Depp specifically, but it led everybody to assume it was him. This led to Depp filing a $50 million defamation lawsuit (the act of destroying one’s reputation) in 2019 against Heard. In court documents, Depp claims that Heard’s allegations against Depp were part of advancing her career, and that none of it is true.

In that same year, Heard filed a motion to get the defamation lawsuit dismissed by explaining the details of abuse she ‘experienced’ from Depp, claiming that he would choke her, shove her, and hit her. However, the motion failed, and led Depp to submit a declaration of support for his defamation lawsuit against his ex.

Now in the courthouse in 2022, Heard’s accusations of abuse from Depp still stand and are brought up in court. Details such as physical assault are mentioned, and sexual assault. Meanwhile, Depp claims he filed a defamation case to clear his name, for the truth to be told.

So far, Depp has stated that he had never hit Heard, or any other woman for that matter. He instead states that it is Heard who is the aggressor. Depp says “It could begin with a slap, it could begin with a shove, it could begin with throwing a TV remote at my head, throwing a glass of wine in my face.”

With this case still going on, there is new information being put out there for everybody to form an opinion and for there to be a consensus to be formed.
