Homecoming Court
Homecoming Court 2017
This year’s homecoming court consisted of 10 girls and 10 boys as the tradition continued since the opening of Dakota. The voting began the Monday before the homecoming dance, and voting lasted all week. There was no campaigning allowed, which was odd for an event like this. The celebration for homecoming court started Friday before the dance during which Lea Galli and Chloe Gall, Dakota seniors, choreographed a dance for the all students in homecoming court to perform during the school wide pep rally. The parade began at 5:00 pm before the Homecoming game at Dakota stadium. Each court couple rode in the back of a extravagant car and passed out candy to all the children celebrating the day by watching the parade. During halftime of the football game, each member of the courts name and parents’ names were announced to the crowd and they all lined up on the track right in front of the bleachers. Winners were announced during the game, Kaya Hunt and Austin Rayis were Dakota’s 2017 homecoming king and queen. Also making an appearance at the game was former king and queen, John Cipriano and J’may Simons to pass their torch. John and J’may were there to crown the next royalty cheerleader Kaya and football player Austin.
We were able to get a personal quote from one of the couples on homecoming court themselves. Gabrielle Oxie and Colin Parquette, were also a part of the 2017 homecoming court. Gabbie stated, “I loved every second that I was able to represent my school! Being in the parade and going on the track at the football game will forever be such a great memory of my High School career!”
Dakota is continuing to keep the homecoming tradition and improve it as years go on!
