SPRING VALLEY, NY — An 18-year-old Spring Valley man has been charged after police say he sexually assaulted three girls, all of them 13 years old. Investigators say the case began as a probe into a possible sexual relationship with one girl, then expanded as officers uncovered allegations involving two others.
Authorities identified the suspect as Alan Vasquez-Alarcon. Police say he was arrested after he allegedly tried to run from a Lafayette Street location where officers were searching for him. The investigation remains active, and detectives say they are still looking into whether there may be additional victims.
Investigation began after officers learned of a relationship with a 13 year old
Spring Valley and Ramapo police launched a joint investigation on Sept. 30 after learning that Vasquez-Alarcon was allegedly involved with a 13-year-old girl. That initial complaint led detectives to start examining his contacts and movements more closely.
Police say the inquiry quickly widened. What started as a single allegation turned into a broader case involving multiple children of the same age, prompting officers to track down the suspect and interview potential witnesses. The case has not been described as closed, and officials say they are still piecing together what happened.
Police say he tried to flee before his arrest on Lafayette Street
About a week after the investigation began, officers went to a location on Lafayette Street while looking for Vasquez-Alarcon. Police said he attempted to run when they moved in. He was taken into custody shortly after that encounter.
Investigators said they were seeking him in connection with the rape of the first 13-year-old girl when the arrest happened. The arrest marked a major step in the case, but police say it also opened the door to more allegations once officers began speaking with others connected to the investigation.
Second girl found inside told investigators about an assault
Inside the same location, police found a second 13-year-old girl who had been reported missing. According to investigators, she later told officers that Vasquez-Alarcon had assaulted her as well. That account added another alleged victim to the case and intensified the scope of the inquiry.
Police have not said where the girl had been before officers found her or what led to her missing-person report. But her discovery inside the location became a key moment for detectives, who say it connected the suspect to another alleged sexual assault involving a child of the same age.
Detectives later linked a third alleged victim to the case
As the investigation continued, detectives learned of a third alleged sexual assault involving another 13-year-old girl. Police have not said how that allegation came to light, but they said it became part of the criminal case against Vasquez-Alarcon.
He is now charged with rape and sex abuse in connection with the three victims. Authorities say they are still working to determine whether anyone else may have been targeted. The continuing review suggests investigators believe the alleged conduct may have extended beyond the three known cases.
Authorities say he posed as younger while messaging the girls
Police said Vasquez-Alarcon presented himself as younger than he really was when communicating with the girls. Investigators did not say how he contacted them, but they said the false age portrayal was part of how he interacted with the victims.
That detail is now part of the broader case file as detectives work through the girls’ accounts and the suspect’s alleged behavior. Officials have not announced any additional charges beyond rape and sex abuse, and they have not said whether the case could lead to further arrests.
Police continue to look for possible additional victims
The investigation is still active, and law enforcement officials say they are trying to determine whether there are more victims. That effort may include follow-up interviews and a review of any other possible contacts tied to the suspect.
For now, the case centers on the three 13-year-old girls police say were assaulted. Vasquez-Alarcon remains charged as investigators continue examining the full scope of the allegations and whether any other children may have had contact with him.
