Tulip Time in Holland!
Every year in Holland, Michigan there’s a big tulip festival. The Tulip festival is apart of the Dutch heritage. This festival lasts for 8 days when the tulips are at their most perfect peak, usually during April or May.
This year for mother’s day I surprised my mother, who has been wanting to go to the festival every year, with a trip to Holland and this is how it went!
Holland was a small city but had a gorgeous downtown filled with tulips everywhere you walked. In this downtown their are many gift shops, nice restaurants, and little bakeries. Outside the downtown, in walkable distance, is a huge carnival! However, I didn’t get the chance to stop by there. While strolling downtown there was a super cute bakery called Cakabakery West, the name threw my family and I off so of course we had to try it. Inside were an amazing assortment of cupcakes, cookies, and coffee. Definitely a spot to try!
As if we haven’t already seen enough tulips from just walking around, we then went to a park near by that had a huge field of tulips. It was shocking to see how many different colors tulips naturally come in. They’re also very tall. The perfect scenery for cute instagram pictures!
Lastly, we went to Windmill Island. This is an actual island in the city of Holland. Unfortunately, my family and I had to walk probably more than a mile to get into the Island and see what it has to offer. This is because when we went to Holland there were so many people there, to also see the tulips, that all parking was taken up and we had to park far and walk. I made the mistake of wearing heels this day. This island is called Windmill Island because the windmill there was brought over from the Netherlands! On the island there were cute dutch shops with clogs, food trucks, and of course the tulips.
We ended the night with dinner and fried oreos from the food trucks. Would totally go back again and recommend everyone go see. It’s a beautiful sight and it’s even more great because everyone brought their dogs!
