Homelessness and Gender

Homelessness is a world wide problem that has been around for hundreds of years. Historically, homelessness has been an issue since the early 1870s and is still a problem to this day. I feel that many people lack empathy when it comes to homeless people and that is a huge part of the problem. Gender plays a roll in homelessness and how long a person is homeless. Studies show that a male is more likely to be homeless, and for a longer period of time than woman. Only 29 percent of the homeless population are women and 79 percent are male. A writer for cultural weekly said “… there are men who feel that no one cares about the plight of men”. With that being said, other makes feel that often times they feel that they have a harder time when being homeless than women.
