Steel Vengeance Opening Day Experience

Cedar Point, the world-renowned roller coaster capital of the world, has added another monster to their collection. Steel Vengeance is the first ever hyper hybrid coaster along with being the tallest, fastest, and longest hybrid coaster in the world. The coaster was manufactured by Rocky Mountain Construction (RMC), and replaces the former wooden coaster Mean Streak. The ride has a whopping 27.2 seconds of airtime, the most of any coaster in the world. I attended the rides opening day on May 5th and it was a very interesting day.

When I went into the park from the resort gate, I was already in the middle of a mob of people just waiting to get into the park. After the national anthem played, they all started running as fast as they could. I even had to run around a bunch of people to get to the back of the par (which I was completely out of breath by the time I got there.) I only had to wait around 30-45 minutes, which is super short compared to the 4 ½ hour wait that formed as the day went on. I got up to the station, waited for back row, and then started the ride experience.

Steel Vengeance’s actual ride experience was completely indescribable. The ride begins with a 90-degree drop, which is one of the best drops on a coaster, but still not the best at the park. The next two elements, the top hat and the outward bank turn, give an amazingly violent and sustained experience. The next two inversions along with the banked turn in between are awesome which gives more airtime. You then hit the mid-course break run, only to dive violently off it. My favorite part of the ride is shortly after when the ride dives into the structure. This moment gave me the most violent and insane moment of airtime I have ever experienced on a coaster. After this you weave your way inside the structure through more banked turns and inversions and end out with 6 consecutive airtime moments before hitting the break run. This is where you ask yourself, “what the heck just happened!”

Although the ride ran smoothly in the morning, two of the ride’s trains were involved in a minor bump. The ride ran to a limited amount of people on the same night and is currently running with one train.

Final verdict: Get to Cedar Point and ride it now, you will not regret it! This is one of the most amazing coasters a person can experience!
