The Winter Spectacular was just this past December. It’s Dakota annual winter choir concert featuring treble and men’s chorus, women’s and mixed varsity, show choir, and the debut of the a Capella groups: Femme Fatale and The Crescendudes.
The show was incredible – all the choirs were memorable, complete with beautiful vocals and choreography. There was one little kid, too, who couldn’t help but scream (in excitement!) at every choir.
Dargis, of course, had a suit for the occasion – he and Boni both the pits of fashion.
Tyler Dargis, alumni of Dakota, is the choir teacher at Dakota, and the emcee for their concerts. Christian Boni is Dakota’s theatre director and resident choreographer.
No stage production at Dakota can function without its tech crew. The tech crew consisted of high school kids, fourteen to eighteen, and they were amazing to work with throughout rehearsals and during the show.
Technical difficulties were inevitable but were minimal during the show compared to the rehearsals. I’d say that the mics cutting out during men’s chorus set was worth it because the audience got to see their set for a second time.
They also go to see the debuting a Capella groups!
Femme Fatale, led by Aliza Black (will be Tanya in the upcoming Mamma Mia musical this February), is an all-women’s group.
The Crescendudes, the men’s group and led by Dante Dagati (who will be a father in aforementioned musical, dates include the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, and 8th, 9th, and 10th this February. Weekday shows are at 7pm, and weekend shows includes a matinee at 1pm and an evening show at 7pm.)
Overall, the show was phenomenal, as Dakota’s shows always are. The spring concert will be held in April, and it’s usually the choir programs biggest show, so try and buy tickets as soon as they’re up.
