October 27th brought Taylor Swift fans everywhere new excitement with the re-release of her album “1989”, now (Taylor’s Version).
Dakota has its fair share of Taylor Swift fans (widely known as “swifties”), and thus the Swift Society was created. Building friendships and bonding over shared love for the artist’s songs is one of its main focuses. The first meeting took place October 30th, hosted by Mrs. Eovaldi in room 236. This date was picked intentionally, following the Friday release of “1989”. The album was listened to, along with previously unreleased songs, and opinions and theories were discussed.
Swift is known for hiding clues, also known as “easter eggs”, within her songs, albums, and music videos. These all interconnect with one another. Such clues such fuel fans’ love for the artist, and with all the metaphors and obscure symbolism worthy of every English teacher, why wouldn’t they? Plus, they often contain hints as to what the next album or big announcement will be.
At Dakota’s Swift Society, meetings will typically be organized the same each time. All swifties (or non-swifties) are welcome to come by, listen to music, make friendship bracelets, and discus everything Taylor-related.
Here are some things members had to say about Swift’s music:
What is it about Taylor Swift that draws people together?
“ I think her lyrics are relatable and she puts a lot of effort and attention into her fanbase, which really builds a sense of community “
On a related point, what is it about her music that makes her so popular?
“ The lyrics!! She has quite a knack for putting feelings into words and stringing them to a catchy (or sometimes devastating) beat! “
Any predictions about any upcoming album releases?
“ I think “Reputation (Taylor’s Version)” will be dropped next with no explanation. In Ms. Swift’s immortal words; ‘there will be no explanation, there will just be reputation.’ “
The next meeting will take place December 13, just in time for the artist’s birthday. Music is for everyone, and so everyone is welcome.
