The 2023 Chili cook-off and Cornhole Tournament was hosted Thursday, October 26th. Taking place at Great Shots Backyard Games, the event was hosted by Inclusive Playground and Kiwanis Club of Clinton township. The fundraiser is to gain money for the construction a new inclusive playground. This project began in December of 2019, when Clinton Township Board of Trustees approved plans for the project. Its purpose is to benefit students with physical of mental disabilities, and allow a safe space for them to play with their peers. Once built, the playground will be located on the Clinton Township Civic Center grounds.
Along with the cornhole tournament and chili cook-off, no event would be complete without a raffle contest. The tournament was a great hit, open to both Pros and the less experienced alike, allowing players to compete for cash prizes.
As for the main event itself, this was the District’s Culinary Arts Program’s third year in a row entering the contest. The first year they entered, the category Best Traditional Chili brought home the gold. With the second year came two prizes – Best Alternative Chili and White Bean Crab. Their streak did not end this year:
Best Alternative Chili went to Marios Khammis’s Middle eastern Lamb Chili.
Honorable Mentions went to Zoie White’s Marinara Chili and Chefs Brisket Chili.
Congratulations to all our Dakota participants!
