Family Fun at the Halloween Hoopla

Family+Fun+at+the+Halloween+Hoopla

Halloween is nearly upon us and what better way to get into the spooky spirit than with a good party? Held at the Macomb Township Rec. Center, the annual Halloween Hoopla is a kooky, spooky family-friendly event open to all ages.

Festivities began at 6:00pm. It didn’t take long before the space was filled with costumed kids and their families, wandering around and seeing all the fun activities. Halloween music poured out of the gym, featuring popular favorites like “Thriller,” “This is Halloween,” and the Ghostbusters theme. Colored lights and smoke machines added to an other-worldly party feeling. Temporary tattoos, a hit among guests of every age, were also available in the gym.

Just beyond that was the Freaky Salon, where little girls came for embellishments to their costumes, plus the thrill of being pampered in a salon. Spray-on hair coloring, styling, and nail polish were the primary features there.

What’s scarier than a box full of snakes? Perhaps a chance to have two meter long one wrapped around your shoulders. Courtesy of a local Reptarium, snakes, lizards, and other creatures were brought in for an interactive experience only the brave of heart could manage. Needless to say, it was a hit.

No Halloween party is complete without a haunted house! Screams, shouts, and even laughter were heard from hallways away as this attraction quickly became packed. it was not uncommon for party goers to get back in line to experience the thrill all over again.

More games and activities were scattered through out the building, including half a dozen bounce houses, carnival style games, and a magic show. Greeted with both screaming and applause was an LED robotic man. Found on the dance floor in the gym, he was both a spectacle and a fright to the kids.

Dakota’s chapter of Key Club participated in this event; helping to run the various activities. They also helped with set up and cleaning up.

If you missed it, that’s alright! The Halloween Hoopla is a yearly event the whole family can experience. Until then, there are more activities to take place: Turkey Hop, a pumpkin-smashing dance held on November 4th; Holiday Lighting festival December 1st, and Santa’s Jingle Bell Brunch on December 16th. Every one of these is a great way to create new memories and new traditions.

is hosting its own version of this spooktacular Halloween event – the annual Haunted Hallway. Hosted by Project kind, it is taking place October 27. Come down for games and prizes, food, and fun. Costumes, much like at the Hoopla, are encouraged. And of course, one can’t miss the main event – the haunted hallway itself. With volunteers from Dakota’s own students, it is bound to be a frightfully fun time
