The Owl House is an animated fantasy series created by Dana Terrace on Disney Channel that follows the story of a human named Luz that finds herself transported into a world of magic and monsters in a land named “The Boiling Isles”. Luz seeks to learn magic and become a witch and is mentored by Eda the Owl Lady, a powerful witch who practices wild magic, and King, a baby titan who resides with Eda. She meets many friends and enemies in her adventures, and later finds that she must save the Boiling Isles and her friends from the treacherous Emperor Belos and the powerful Collector. The show aired in January of 2020 and had been a major hit with fans, running for a total of three seasons with the third season being a 3-episode special. The third and last episode of the show recently came out on April 8th, and it wrapped up the conflict of the plot in a momentous emotion filled finale.

I’ve personally been a fan of the show since it premiered in 2020, so I was very excited to see how the conclusion played out, especially with so many loose ends that had to be tied up. Leading up to the finale, the Boiling Isles was in peril due to the corruption that took place in the past season. Belos tricked everyone into believing he was offering them a more powerful existence, when in reality he was trying to destroy the world of magic and all its inhabitants. Luz and her companions Amity, Gus, Willow, and Hunter all escaped into the human world after the Collector, a powerful mercurial entity, was released by King in order to stop Belos. Unfortunately, the child-like Collector turned the Boiling Isles into his own personal playground and started to treat everyone like puppets- Literally!

In the Finale, Luz and her friends make their way back from the human world and make a plan to save the Boiling Isles. All their friends and family are locked away in the Collector’s “archive” and the threat of the evil Belos still remains, their only hope is to find Eda and King to regroup and defeat Belos. The Collector was manipulated by Belos to believe that King, Luz, and Eda were a threat to him and didn’t want to befriend him in any way, and the Collector, who only wanted to play games and make friends, felt hurt by this and tried to hinder Luz.

After convincing the Collector that his ways were wrong and that kindness and forgiveness were the only way to true peace, he vows to help them in their efforts to defeat Belos. Luz learns that Belos is trying to take over the previous Titans body to corrupt the world of magic, and she sacrifices herself to protect the collector, and in the process gains magic from King’s dad, the previous Titan, so she could have a window of opportunity to save the Boiling Isles in an ultimate battle between good and evil.

The animation of the Finale was absolutely spectacular, I have watched many animated series and this show by far had the most breathtaking fluid animation than any other show I have seen. The movements of the characters were smooth, and the backgrounds and atmosphere were gorgeous and blended everything together so well. The design of the characters was creative and beautifully done, each having their own special outfits and extras that added to the charm of each person.

The music added during battles was exciting and provided more energy to the episode making it more entertaining and attention grabbing. The story provided a complex slew of ideas and feelings that have been true to The Owl House since its beginning, by the end the connection you feel towards the characters is strong and amazing to experience. It was so rewarding to see the outcome of the plot that has been slowly built over the course of the series, and it was so emotional to see where the characters ended up and how much they’ve grown from their experiences presented throughout the story.  This finale brings such raw emotions with its characters, plot, animation, music; it is an absolutely phenomenal ending to such a charming show.

Dana Terrace and the team of animators on The Owl House put so much hard work, time, and energy into making the show as wonderful as it is. The love and effort they contributed to the series is obvious when you watch how beautifully they wrapped it up, that kind of passion is what makes a series like The Owl House so great.
