Thrifting at Salvation Army: Hall Road Location
Thrift stores have received an overwhelming amount of popularity in the last few years, gaining traction for housing used clothes at a discounted price. When my friend and I were deciding on stores to shop at while we hung out, we decided to hop on the trend and go on a small thrifting trip to the Salvation Army on Hall Road.
When we entered the location on a chilly Wednesday afternoon, she was in awe of the selection we had to pick from. Upon closer inspection there was a wide range of clothes and knick knacks, the women’s section taking up the entire left side of the store. As a frequent regular I first led her to the long racks of jeans as she explained to me earlier that she needed a new pair of oversized jeans, a popular trend nowadays with teenagers. While she looked for some wide-legged pants, I scanned the sweatshirts and sweat jacket section and to my surprise, found a couple of items for the both of us that we took home that day.
Firstly, I stumbled across a salmon pink, off the shoulder, cropped crewneck, the front revealing big black letters spelling out the word “PINK,” the name of the popular brand Victoria Secret Pink. Next, I began to look for items that I knew were ones my friend would like and stumbled across a red short sleeve sweat jacket. Upon closer inspection, there were blue and white stripes down each side of the jacket and down its hood, the brand being Gloria Vanderbilt.
After I grabbed the two items, we met up at the women’s t-shirts section and looked for possible shirts that we could style in the future. As we first looked through the pinks, blues, and purples, my friend happened to find a Victoria Secret Pink maroon women’s tee with a triangle neckline. About a minute after finding one shirt, I came across another for myself, an icy blue Aeropostale women’s tee with a button-down collar. The design was displayed along the front with a blue hibiscus flower and a white embroidered Aeropostale logo, perfect for a casual summer get-together.
Once we found our items we circled back to another aisle and pulled out a cream-colored dress shirt from the racks. It was a flowy Patrons of Peace top with a lace front, decorated with two tassels hanging from the tip of its collar like drawstrings on a sweatshirt. When we tried all of our items on, we settled on buying them and took them home with us, giving us cute new looks and some new additions to our wardrobe.
For those who are baby thrifters, a good tip is to look on Pinterest or google for a particular item you like. When you have that photo of your item, save the image to your phone and pull it up while you thrift. Instead of not knowing what to look for, this will give you a clear idea as you go from rack to rack. If your clothing item isn’t there, there’s always a next time, another store, and another thrifting run.
