“Better out than in as I always say”

Shrek… A classic.

Fairy Godmother's iconic concert that will go down as one of the best performances of all time.

This movie displayed an ugly green ogre as a big-screen hero in a romantic comedy fairy tale world. With this plot, this probably left many critics questioning if this movie would be a hit. It’s out of the ordinary, but I think that’s what makes this film series so great.

Shrek was released back in 2001 on May 18 and right away topped the box office. This movie later on received the Academy Award for best animated feature, beating Pixar’s Monsters, Inc. Over twenty years later, this movie is still loved by many today.

Shrek was inspired by a children’s book, believe it or not. The classic begins with Shrek and Donkey on a journey to save Shrek’s swamp. What made this film great are the voice actors and actresses Mike Myers as Shrek, Cameron Diaz as Fiona, and Eddie Murphy as Donkey. The movie illustrates the actions of saving a damsel in distress all while maintaining the themes of self-love, true love, friendship, and discovering your identity.

Some of you may know, there are 4 Shrek movies: Shrek, Shrek 2, Shrek The Third, and Shrek Forever After. Each of them show Shrek’s character development, which I love. Out of those 4 movies, Shrek 2 is my favorite. Including it’s iconic Fairy Godmother’s Concert of Holding out for a Hero, and Shrek’s switch-a-rooney. I definitely recommend checking out not only the original, but the other 3.

There have been some rumors lately that there is a Shrek 5 coming out sooner or later. It’s supposed to feature Diaz and Murphy, but no sign of Myers! However, these rumors have not been confirmed nor denied.
