Taylor Swift Collab Theories

Taylor Swift Collab Theories

As we fall into the season of Red (Taylor’s Version), swifties emerge from their cruel summer slumber and theorize every aspect of her life. The current hot topic amongst Swift’s biggest fans is collaborations.

After seeing her and Harry Styles all smiles, sharing a short conversation at the 2021 Grammy’s, us and our clown-like tendencies put it upon ourselves to convince the world that they are undoubtedly collaborating. Unfortunately, this theory has no backbone, though I still choose to believe it. But there are two theories that have buckets of supporting evidence.

First up, we have Adele. Our second contributor to the new music of sad girl fall, Adele spoke of Taylor Swift in a  recent interview. Simply mentioning how her son would like for her to tour with Ms. Swift was enough to spark speculations of a collaboration.

In early July the SESAC (Society of European Stage Authors and Composers) showed a song titled Broken Hearts, supposedly written by Taylor Swift and Adele. This was recently deleted from the site, but before it’s extraction, it was registered by Taylor Swift Music and Universal Tunes. Since then, Adele has announced her new album, 30, set to release on November 19th, 2021. Just before this announcement, Swift revealed that she’d be releasing Red (Taylor’s Version) a week early, on November 12th, 2021. The original release date was November 19th, the same date Adele set for her new release. While it’s possible that Taylor just wanted to give the spotlight to Adele, there’s never “no reason” behind these decisions. She has a long history of posting “easter eggs”, or hints about what’s coming up in her career. As of now, I would say there’s a 45% chance of this collaboration occurring.

Next up, the collaboration that would break the music industry: Taylor Swift and the Jonas Brothers. On August 23rd, Taylor joined TikTok, which the Jonas Brothers had already been on for some time. There have been multiple encounters between the band and Swift through this video platform which lead to beliefs that they are soon releasing music together. The first video was posted on Nick Jonas’s account on September 29th. While the content was unrelated to Taylor, the middle of the video contained a glitch. On September 17th Swift posted a TikTok about the 1989 re-recording, where the same type of distorted glitch occurred.

Another TikTok video was posted on Nick’s account, with a picture saying “Collab: Jonas Brothers x Taylor Swift”, in which he captioned, “What’s this collab rumor all about? For the record…I’m here for it.”. Shortly after, he posted one of him eating a bag of popcorn that says “est. 1989” (Swift’s birth year). Nick also posted a TikTok of him eating pizza, where Taylor commented, “iconic 🍕”.  In her April interview with Stephan Colbert, Swift held up a “mood board” with pieces of pizza on it. We thought it was an easter egg at the time, but didn’t know why.

Joe Jonas posted a TikTok with the caption, “Maybe I Should’ve Said No To This”, potentially referencing Taylor Swift’s, “Should’ve Said No”. He also posted an Instagram story using Swift’s 1989 album hit, “Welcome to New York”. Considering this, as well as the “Est. 1989” popcorn bag and the matching glitches from her 1989 TikTok, I have a feeling this collab might be coming on 1989 (Taylor’s Version), which still has no set release date. Whether these were purely fun interactions, or easter eggs suggesting a collab, I have high hopes for this one. Confidently, I’d say this has a 95% chance of happening.

Regardless of what all of this means, Swift has been working so hard to get her music back to her own possession, and has released some amazing collaborations, including Bon Iver  (Exile and Evermore), Haim (No Body No Crime), The Nationals (Coney Island), and Keith Urban [That’s When (Taylor’s Version)(From the Vault)].
