Black history month
February is a month to celebrate the beauty, and success of the black culture. Black History is very important, especially around times like these . Many hurtful things have happened to the black community, such as the killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, and Ahmaud Arbery. These three innocent people were shot and killed by white police officers. These actions of the police triggered not only the black community, but people all over the world. Everyone has had enough. I interviewed a few people, but this person’s comment stood out to me. She said, “Black people have been protesting peacefully for years, now we’re just tired and fed up with stuff that shouldn’t even be happening in the 20th century. Things like this should’ve ended decades ago. It’s not fair, and neither is society”. Racism has been going on for centuries, and it’s time for a change.
On the brighter side, there has been a lot of success in the black community. For example, Martin Luther King Jr., and Rosa Parks. It wasn’t easy for neither one of them to make a difference, but they did, and thanks to all their efforts and protests, many states became integrated. Without them, we wouldn’t have as much freedom as we do now. It is important for our community not only to come together, but also be educated together. Black History Month gives everyone the opportunity to learn more about the black community. Though Black History is only a month long, the shortest month, it is celebrated everyday.
