Animal Testing
Do you support animal testing? More than 240 companies still test on animals today. Britain was the first country to try to regulate animal testing back in 1876 when they passed the Cruelty to Animals Act. More than a century later, in 1986, the act was replaced with the Animals Scientific Procedure Act which stated regulated any procedure which could cause any “pain, suffering, distress, or lasting harm” to any of the animals. Beginning in the twentieth century, most cosmetic companies would test new products on animals before putting them out on the market. Since then, many protest groups were formed to stop all cosmetic companies from animal testing on their products. The first two major cosmetic companies to ban animal testing on their products was Avon and Revlon. Some companies also took a downfall when it was leaked that they had been animal testing and went into major failure.
Product testing on animals has been a conflict for decades. Protests and rallies have been ongoing ever since. There are more than 100 million animals abused, poisoned, killed, etc. a year in United States laboratories. The testing on these animals include chemicals being dripped into eyes, rubbed on bare skin, and more. All of these procedures are done without any pain relief medication. Some animals have even been purposely exposed to radiation and forcing them to inhale toxic gases. Subject animals can also be purposely frightened to a certain point, to create depression and anxiety. These animals are being denied of their rights to live on earth and roam around freely. Animals are living creatures on earth just as people are. Would you allow humans to be tested on as these animals are?
