Blakes Vs Yates: The Doughnut Duel
With the light of fall being just around the corner, we recently went to Blake’s and Yates cider mills to tell you all which local cider mill is the best. From our experience, based on setting, treats, and activities to do, Blakes cider mill has a better overall experience than Yates.
To begin, let’s talk location of the Cider mills. Yates is located off 23-mile road and Avon Road. Blake’s is located off Armada Center road. When going to a cider mill, we wanted to feel more in a rural setting. When going to Yates, you must deal with tons of traffic. The roads that Yates are off, Avon and 23 miles, are very busy roads. Blake’s is out in the rural setting, giving you the feeling of being in the country, which typically leads to less traffic.
Now to the best part, the doughnuts. At Yates, we noticed the doughnuts are smaller than the ones at Blake’s. The doughnuts at Blake’s were warm and
fresh, Yates’ doughnuts did not seem as freshly baked. The doughnuts at Blake’s were in our opinions also fluffier compared to the ones at Yates. However, both places have equally tasting cider to pair with your doughnut treats.
While you’re at each cider mill, you might want to do some fall activities, while both places offer things to do while you enjoy your treats. Blake’s stands out with having much more options for all age groups. While both places include petting zoos for children to enjoy, at Blake’s we saw much more animals to pet as well as a much larger space devoted to a petting zoo. In addition to petting zoos, Blake’s offers haunted attractions in the Halloween for anyone who enjoys their horror. Blake’s also fea
tures a recently added winery and tasting room for the adults who would like to unwind and enjoy themselves. Although Yates falls behind with attractions for guests, they are located near a small river that runs adjacent to the path they have, which admittedly offers a very calming, and scenic view.
To summarize, while Yates offers great scenery, and good doughnuts, we believe that Blake’s Cider Mill has the all-around best experience. With Blake’s offering multiple haunted attractions, fantastic cider and doughnuts, a petting zoo, and winery, it gives the fullest experience for the fall
season.

Blake’s all the way – the donuts, the cider – can’t beat ’em! Our family makes the pilgrimage every year! This year – two full bags of apples that became six homemade apple pies and a boatload of homemade applesauce (on top of more donuts and cider than I’m willing to admit)! A trip to Blake’s to kick off family “apple day” is a fall tradition in our house!

In my own humble opinion, Yates is apple juice pretending to be cider while Blake’s is everything cider is supposed to be.
