Kanye West Against The World

If you have a twitter in this day in age you most likely have seen some part of Kanye West rants on twitter about several things that he thinks are important. The past two to three weeks the man has a new goal at hand and that is to fix the way the music industry works. As most people know, the music industry and label deals have been taking advantage of the artist they sign for decades now, from Michael Jackson, Prince and still even newer artist like Lil Uzi. Most artist sign with these big record deals because they need money and they don’t have that much fame yet and need help to market them self, so they sign a contract that they barley read or their lawyer reads it and they say it looks good, your broke now but once you sign this you will become much richer, all you have to do is sign. It is a trap that these labels set up and pull off, making multimillion dollars in the process for decades. As I was saying Kanye has spoken out against this tyranny way of running music especially in 2020. He has criticized label deals, shared his own contracts, and suggested ways to restructure the music business — some of which may be more practical than others. Kanye had the audacity to post all his TEN contracts all on twitter saying, “I want every lawyer in the world to look at these”. Kanye’s rants started with how he is controlled personally his whole career and how it is not fair at all and he wants all his masters back from all the art he has produced. Now he has tried to turn his rants into a global movement and get back at these big record deals for ruining artists lives and taking ownership of what the artist makes. In an interview he recently did with Billboard, he said “this is bigger than his own deal — it’s about all artists, all contracts, and the whole way the entire business works. “The balance of power is too off, the gap between major label profit and artist profit too wide,” he says, “and I will work to re-think the design of the entire way we move in this space.” Kanye Has a huge influence on the world and pretty much anything he talks about makes headlines so for him to try to tackle the music industry by him self is insane, but if anyone can create change it is the Greatest of all time, Kanye West.
