League of Legends MSI: Group Stage Rundown

This week marked the end of the long awaited Mid Season Invitational. The first week showed just how good all of the teams are. Although, MSI was very entertaining, the standings went as expected for group stages. The final standings were

  1. IG
  2. SKT
  3. G2
  4. TL

In first place, IG showed complete dominance going (9-1) in the group stages. Their controlled style of aggression paired with the best players in their role, they were bound to succeed. Everyone knew they would do well during the tournament, but no one expected the pure dominance they showed. Every game was closed out cleanly. The only game they dropped was on the last day of group stage, that was to SKT. SKT was the most hyped up team coming into the tournament. With the undisputed best player in the world, Faker, they looked to take revenge and revive the South Korean dynasty. They started off slow but started to pick up pace towards the end. They managed to squeeze by with second place due to G2 losing to TL later in the day. SKT is a hit or miss team, if they are playing at their best, no one can beat them, but they struggle really hard at their worst. SKT will play G2 in the semi finals, the only problem was SKT have yet to beat G2 during the tournament. G2 was the closest team to contesting IG. Both teams play the same play style, they play calculated aggression and get leads off of kills. They are really face paced and have the amazing players to execute the risky play style. The only way to beat them is by slowing down their solo laners, this slows down the pace of the game for G2 and cause them to fall apart slowly. That is what TL to beat them to barely make it into the semi finals. TL came into the tournament playing just as expected. They beat the teams lower than them but struggled really hard against the top teams. Although they made it out of the group stage, it is really hard to see them making it any farther into the tournament. The only team they beat that was a higher standing then them was G2, but they are playing a red hot IG in the semi finals who have no intention of slowing down. The Knock out stage starts next week with IG vs TL and G2 vs SKT. These 4 teams are looking to chase for that once in a lifetime chance to win an international tournament.
