Dakota Bands at Festival
Dakota held the annual District Band Festival on Saturday, March 9. High school bands from around the area came to Dakota to compete at the district level and to try to qualify for the state competition. At the festival, bands are judged on their performance of three pieces of music. After they finished performing their three pieces, they are then given a piece of music that they have never played before and are judged on how well they play it. After they are done playing all the pieces, the bands are then given an overall score from 1-5, with 1 being the best. The bands that achieve a rating of 1 are then invited to move on to the state competition in April.
Dakota’s concert, symphonic and wind ensemble, all did wonderful jobs playing at festival. The concert band played first and received a rating of 1 for their superb playing. The symphonic band went second and did well receiving a rating of 2. The wind ensemble played last out of the three bands and did a fabulous job receiving a rating of 1. Congratulations to all the bands on their outstanding performances.
