Avoid the Traffic
Seniors Ashley Koshurba, Andrea Hontucan, and Sydney Smith created the “Avoid the Traffic” campaign to spread awareness about human trafficking. “We believe that it is a big problem in this area and it’s not mentioned in the public eye as much as it should be,” says Andrea. The girls conducted presentations December through January to show students the signs to look for that may put them in danger; “we also taught students ways to get out of a dangerous situation if approached by a stranger,” comments Ashley. The group wanted to make sure that students know the signs for someone who may be a part of human trafficking. They also held a “blue shirt” day on national human trafficking awareness day for those affected by modern day slavery. “We want to help those that are already trafficked, but also prevent it,” explains Sydney.
