Mechatronics, or, mechanics and electronics (as can be assumed form the combined name) is a class held right here at Dakota. Found near the band hallway and tech classes, it is run by Mr. Walker and, at the moment, is the only class of its kind and thus a rather small one. As the name suggests, mechanics, electronics, engineering, and other such hands-on activates are its focus. Various projects hone students’ skills in those areas.
This class is for anyone who likes building. Many, if not all, projects involve working with one’s hands. But of course, that is the appeal of the class. One student, for example, is currently working on an air hockey board. With framing made of wood with a stripe of LED lights running around the inside border, it combines the two focuses of the class by also requiring some device being built to power it. But of course, there are other projects one could do.
If one is interested in such activities, consider taking mechatronics! There is fun, plus the satisfaction of building something with one’s own two hands makes the class all the more engaging.
