According to ASPCA.org, approximately 6.3 million companion animals enter U.S. animal shelters nationwide every year. Taking care of and providing for animals is important, and these statistics show animal shelters are in need of assistance. Also, animal shelters are often short of supplies, such as collars, blankets, and especially dog and cat food, which is essential to the animals.
At Dakota High School, one of the many clubs offered is the Animal Welfare Workers club (AWW). AWW is an organized club that is dedicated to helping animals and animal shelters in need through donations, volunteering, and fundraisers.
Some of the fundraising events in the past have included tie blanket making, bake sales, and shelter drives. There will definitely be plenty of fun activities to participate in this year too!
By joining AWW, you can enjoy getting to be a part of something and being more involved with Dakota. Also, if you are looking for more clubs to add to your college application, AWW would be perfect.
If you are interested and may be willing to participate in AWW, meetings are held once a month after school on Wednesdays. They are led by Mr. Tocco in his room (203) and all grade levels are welcome to attend. Not only will you be helping animals, but you will be having fun with your friends and meeting new people while doing so.
