The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes

The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes trailer is out now! And just so happens to be taking the internet by storm with fans of the dystopian series being ecstatic for the prequel’s release. The Hunger Games official Instagram page posted a teaser for the film on March 25 with the caption, “This one’s for the fans. Thank you. The Hunger Games: Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes—only in theaters November 17,” and tagging the would be cast of the film. A month later, the official poster and trailer for the film were released on April 27.

The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes is a novel written in 2020 by Suzanne Collins, and the prequel book to the Hunger Games series, has rose to popularity through social media. The novel, taking place approximately 65 years prior to Katniss and Peeta’s time follows, “young Coriolanus Snow, the future president of Panem, as he mentors a tribute for the 10th Hunger Gamesa tournament which paves the way for his tyrannical reign” (Vogue Singapore). The thrilling and adventure filled book now allows reader to get a look into the past of the fictional world that is The Hunger Games.

Now, everyone has heard of the infamous dystopian series written in the late 2000s by Suzanne Collins. It’s pretty hard not to with it still being a popular gem within the book community (and will continue to be). But with The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes being published approximately 12 years after the original trilogy was made, as well as it taking place before the events of the original series, the announcement for the film’s release leaves many pondering what’s in store as well as others confused on when a fourth book was added. But nonetheless, former, and newer Hunger Games fans all gather together one last time for the return of another iconic film.

As someone who never liked books growing up, the Hunger Games was the first series that sparked my love for books, especially ones in the dystopian genre. And though I haven’t fully watched all three Hunger Games movies, I am thrilled to see that the film franchise is finishing off with a bang! There is also something about the date November 17 that’s just perfect for the last hunger games movie to be released on, with it being fall and all comfy and cozy, curling up to watch a dystopian movie seems so fun!

The movie, said to be released on November 17, is leaving everyone at the edge of their seats, waiting for what’s to come. And when I say everyone, I mean internationally.

“I’m really look forward to seeing the parallels between Katniss and Lucy, and also getting to know how Snow became the Snow we know from the previous movies”- Lola, Chile

“I’m very excited for the move to come out. The book itself was amazing but being a book, it lacked certain visual elements that the trailer has already made clear they’re going to including (like Lucy’s bow being similar to Katniss’s). The trailer itself was amazing so I can’t wait for the movie!”- Sumya, Texas

“I’m very interested in seeing a visual recreation of Snow and his motivations for becoming the figure he was in the later series, The cinematic quality seems excellent, and I hope it lives up to the hype.”- Megan, Oregon
