Outer Banks Season 3 Review
!Contains spoilers for Outer Banks season three!
Outer Banks season 3 is finally here. At the end of last season many were very eager for this season to be released. Outer Banks is a very popular Netflix original about a teenager, John B Routledge, enlisting his three best friends, Pope, JJ, and Kiara to go on a hunt for a legendary treasure linked to John B’s father’s disappearance. In the Outer Banks there are two sides of the island: the kooks and the pogues. The Kooks are the rich side off the island with big houses, lots of money, and snobby attitudes. The pogues are like John B and his best friends. They live in a poorer side of the island with people who work for the kooks to make money. Sarah Cameron is a kook who starts dating John B which is not usual because kooks and pogues don’t necessarily get along. Sarah Cameron is now along for the journey that these pogues are on for treasure. And we were introduced to a new character last season, Cleo, who is also now a part of the pogues for the ride.
Season two of Outer Banks ended in a crazy heist, escape and finally seeing a huge plot twist that John B’s alleged presumed dead father was actually alive. Starting Season three, we see the pogues living it up on an island they were stuck on which they names ‘Poguelandia’. After weeks of fishing, eating coconuts, and playing games, they finally spot a plane that can finally come save them. The pilot that sees them and saves them isn’t very normal to them and the pogues don’t fully trust him. It doesn’t take them too long to realize him finding them was a mistake. They all attack him after realizing he is not who they think he is, and the plane crash lands into the water in Barbados. Following this, Kiara is kidnapped by the villain of this season, Carlos Singh, who is looking for the same treasure the pogues are looking for. While the pogues are trying to figure out what they are going to do next, we see Rafe Cameron, Sarah Cameron’s brother, heading to meet a mysterious buyer in hopes of selling the cross, which was an ancient artifact the pogues had but lost to Rafe, for a fortune. It goes on to show John B’s father, Big John, is one step behind the pogues while they try to free Kiara. It is shown that Big John may hold the answers the pogues have been looking for about the treasure. The adventure then takes off in a thrilling ten episodes.
Moving on to my thoughts on this season, I thought it would be much better than anticipated. It felt like there was so many things changing and happening that I couldn’t keep up. I loved the relationship development this season. Since last season, all the fans have been waiting for Jiara to happen, which is a ship for JJ and Kiara, because so many fans loved seeing them together. I loved to see that they finally get together and admit their feelings. We see another relationship form between Pope and Cleo which fans also wanted to see following Cleo’s addition to the pogues last season. The biggest thing for me this season I didn’t enjoy was Big John, John B’s father. We finally saw last season that he survived his attack against Ward Cameron, Sarah, and Rafe Cameron’s dad, and was not actually dead which we were all lead to believe. When John B and him finally reunited it was a nice moment, but from there on out I did not enjoy their scenes at all. I wanted to see father and son moments between them, but all Big John cared about was the treasure and it was very annoying to watch. When I watched their scenes together I just wanted to skip forward and not see them.
Although I wasn’t as interested in this season as the two before, I really thought the ending was perfect for this season. It even made me cry at the end. When John B and Sarah found the gold and got out I was so excited. And then as it was going on I noticed Big Johns wound was getting worse and it was kind of foreshadowing that he wasn’t going to make it. Then when Ward showed up and one of Singhs men also to get the gold, I knew that something crazy was going to happen. When Singhs guard was going to shoot Sarah and Ward finally became the good guy and ended his life to save her and her friends, it was a very emotional moment to watch. Then, when they time skipped eighteen months forward it showed the pogues getting praised for their findings and finally showing their families proud of them after not understanding why they were doing all of this. It was nice to see all the couples, JJ and Kiara, Pope and Cleo, and John B and Sarah.
The ending scene of the season had basically confirmed season four of Outer Banks. At the ceremony for the pogues finding the gold, a man comes up to them to ask them a question. He shows up with a proposition as he introduces to them a mysterious captains log from 1718 that belonged to a pirate named Edward Teach, otherwise known as Blackbeard. I think this was a wonderful way to introduce the new adventure that season four will hold and that it is better to confirm it than have people question and the internet go crazy. Now we just have to wait and see when the new season will be announced, and I can’t wait to see what more this show holds.
Overall, I would give Season three of Outer Banks a 6.5/10. Although it was not as good as the two seasons before it, I would still recommend it to someone looking to watch a thrilling teen show. Season 1 and 2 were more of a thrill leading up to this season. We see so many secrets and truths about characters take place and it was so interesting to watch unfold. And this season was more of what’s been leading up to the treasure being found. But as I said I would still recommended watching it.
