Puss in Boots: The Last Wish

DreamWorks fans of all ages were gifted on December 21st, 2022, after the release of the highly anticipated film “Puss and Boots: The Last Wish” in theaters.  The trailer sparked lots of excitement because of the gorgeous comic-like animation where animators blended 2D and 3D animation into one fluid piece.

The first Puss in Boots film released in 2011 was very popular in its own right, and Shrek fans were excited to see the fearless cat get his own movie rendition. Now with the sequel, audiences are calling it the most hit movie of 2022, surpassing Avatar: The Way of Water with an outstanding 96% on Rotten Tomatoes. The movie has made 263.6 million in the box office and people are sharing their love and amusement for the movie online all-over social media.

The animated film follows the story of the suave hero Puss in Boots as he searches for a fallen wishing star that will grant the finder any wish of their desire. Puss faces fear for the first time in all 9 of his lives as he is taken down to his last remaining life and is threatened by looming death, otherwise seen in the movie as an actual antagonist, Lobo, the wolf reaper. The movie teaches a lesson on appreciating life and shows as Puss learns to embrace the time that he has and the people he cares about over the span of his adventure.

The story delivered an amusing, heartwarming tale that brings back the nostalgia of our favorite childhood films as well as embracing a new plot. The characters were enjoyable, each showing their own motives and values adding a refreshing element to the story. The animation really takes the cake though, and gives the viewers an eye-catching experience with the fluid character motion and artistic stylization.

It’s safe to say that DreamWorks is really upping the ante for other animation studios, with the way they deliver outstanding complex villains and characters, creative animation styles, and going above and beyond in creating a good movie.
