Orange Skies
Lighting up the world
with their vibrant personality
the sun was the apple of every ones eye.
The humans below leaving the house
in the morning
just to greet him
to start their days.
She watched in the shadows
her darkness she brought
cloaking the world in her night sky.
Illuminating the light from the sun
the earthlings rushing to their houses;
to avoid the black of the night.
fearful of her
fearful of the darkness she brought.
She, the moon chased him
watched them rise up into the sky
as she sank below the horizon.
She wanted the light
wanted the attention
of the onlookers
and the warmth
of his smile.
They were long distance lovers.
greeting each other face to face
only when one would rise
and the other sink below
the horizon.
And the people below watching
their exchanges
admiring the sun’s beauty
and how he would light the sky
a yellow orange for his
distant sweetheart.
But with more sunrises
and the more sunsets
the more jealous she grew.
She realized the reasons why
it was called
a sunrise and a sunset.
Even though the sunsets and rises
involved her
he stole all their eyes
with his orange lightshow in the sky.
The earthlings neglected to realize that
the tides of the sea bend and break to her will
that she caused the solar eclipses
she had many talents
but all were out shined by him.
The moon grew more and more distant
growing annoyed
at the sun’s efforts
to swoon her and the people.
Looking away from the colorful tie dye sky
while the sun stole their hearts again,
As he did millions of times before
in the now red orange sky
noticing the stars.
Brighter than the others
she turned to face it
the stars smiled back.
She recalled how the earthlings
had spent prior years
making constellations
out of them
the stars
how they made stories to go along
with each picture in the sky.
Complex stories
of complex people
with complex messages.
Making paintings of them
just as Vincent Van Gogh
Starry Night.
Gazing into them
she knew
the humans loved him
and gave them attention
so she would to.
She wanted that
the fascination the earthlings had with the others
she wanted that for herself.
Her life revolved around them
but they revolved around the sun
So with that
she ignored the sun and his beauty.
Only paying attention to the
glittering sky in the night
sparkling just for her.
The sun grew jealous.
Glaring from behind his clouds
turning the world cold
lakes turning icy
and snow decorating the towns
as the people bundled up
staying in from the fringed winds.
The orange sunsets stopped
because she didn’t care enough to see
the work he put into the sky.
The more he hid
the colder the earth got
and the dimmer his little got.
With the people missing the warm glow
the clouds became thicker
shielding him from looking
into the eyes of the one
who hurt him.
The plants eventually stopped growing
their crumpled-up bodies
laying in the graveyards of crop fields.
The people hungry
begging for his return
because they needed him
brighten up the dark world he left them in.
To make the world a green forest
with flowers blooming
and the orange of the sunsets.
The moon needed the sun
because she stupidly forgot
she can’t be seen in the night sky
without his light to reflect.
With the humans are no longer able to see her
and the stars giving her
the attention she craved
She forgot that
She was supposed to orbit the earth.
The moon revolved around them
and the people revolved around the sun.
But with the moon leaving the sun broken
and concealing his cracked heart
It left the earth dying.
